Formentera Guide

Formentera Ferry Port

Formentera is the smallest and most southerly island of the Balearic group, located around six kilometres south of Ibiza. For many years Formentera was Ibiza's shy and unassuming little sister, but that’s changed as the island has grown in popularity. You’ll find Formentera has a less lively, more laid back feel than the other Balearic Islands; more of a beach loungers paradise, helped by the fact it features some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. The majority of visitors head to the island between May and October, though Formentera rarely gets as crowded as neighbouring Ibiza, Mallorca or Menorca. Out of season, the beaches are virtually deserted, bars and restaurants, if not closed are empty and the island is reclaimed by locals. The only way into the island is by ferry with fast and frequent connections offered from Ibiza as well as from mainland Spain. Due to Formentera’s proximity to Ibiza, the crossing connecting the two islands is short and generally operated by small passenger vessels with less on board amenities than you may expect to find on a longer crossing. The frequency of departures increases in high season to meet with demand. Ferries from mainland Spain are less frequent and take longer however the on board experience will be a more comfortable one. This crossing generally runs between April and September. The ferry port in Formentera is at La Savina and can be found on the north side of the island.
