Harwich Guide

Harwich Ferry Port

Harwich International ferry port can be found in Essex on the east coast of England, about one mile upstream from the town of Harwich, opposite the port of Felixstowe and is a natural gateway to Europe. The ferry terminal itself is in Parkeston and the main passenger ferry activity in Harwich is provided by the Stena Line route to the Hook of Holland in the Netherlands and is operated by modern state-of-the-art ships. Approximately 1 million passengers pass through the ferry terminal each year either starting or completing their trip. Harwich ferry port has in the past featured connections with Sweden (Gothenburg) and Germany (Cuxhaven) with DFDS Seaways but both services ceased around 2005 and as yet have not been restarted by other ferry companies. If you are passing through then be sure to visit Dovercourt which lies just to the south of Harwich. The older town of Dovercourt has been settled since prehistoric times and the iron lighthouses or 'Leading Lights' which sit along the picturesque Blue Flag beach are worth a look.
