The town and port of Marmaris in Turkey lies on the Mediterranean Sea coast in Mugla Province, in the south west of the country. The town is a major tourist resort and is located along the shores of the Turkish Riviera. Despite a significant construction boom during the 1980's the town has managed to hold on to some of original charm and character. The town is especially popular with scuba divers and sailors. The craggy coastline around the town is just waiting to be explored by visitors. Just a few kilometers from the town the coastline has many bays of crystal clear water, backed by pine-covered mountains. A good way to explore the region is to hire a car or motorcycle and drive around the rugged Resadiye and Hisaronu peninsulars.
